Cape Tarkhankut in western Crimea is famous for its clean and warm waters. The coast of the peninsula has picturesque landscapes created by hundreds of years of limestone destruction. But the most interesting places are hidden under the surface of the water. The landscape of the coastal areas is made up of many caves, tunnels and wells, and there is also a famous underwater museum.

In Cape Tarkhankut the best diving instructors work, who will help people who have never used diving equipment to dive to a depth of several meters. Here, in addition to the beauty of the underwater landscape, you can see a unique underwater museum (or “leader’s alley”).

This unusual place was created by accident. The Ukrainian authorities, with the support of divers from the local club, have brought busts and monuments of Soviet leaders here since the early 2000s. With each city, there were more and more exhibits, and in 2012 an underwater museum was founded in this place.

There are no usual fences and glass walls here, all exhibits are located on the ground. The territory of the underwater museum is divided into two halls, in one you can see many monuments of the Soviet era, and in the second there are various works of art.

Sailing among the rocks you can see the busts of Soviet leaders, a monument to the first divers, classics of Russian literature, a girl resting in a clearing, a dinosaur skeleton, a London bridge, a sunken ship, an airplane crashed, a phone booth and a motorcycle. All exhibits can be touched, saddled, and interesting and memorable photos can be taken.

A walk through the underwater museum generates a lot of emotions and brings to mind movie scenes about ancient submerged cities. But it must be remembered that diving is a great load on the body. Therefore, diving, even at a shallow depth, is not worth it for people who have problems with the heart and respiratory system.

If you decide to take a trip to Crimea, be sure to visit the Tarkhankut Underwater Museum. And to make the trip as profitable as possible, use the Yandex Travel service.
