Geothermal energy comes from heat generated by natural processes deep within the Earth. In most areas, this heat only heats rocks and groundwater near the surface, but in volcanically active areas it can melt rocks to form magma.

To harness this energy, engineers find areas where magma is close to the surface and drill deep holes into the heated rock and water. These wells then bring the steam to the surface, where it is sent to a power plant to generate energy.

After electricity is created, the steam cools and condenses back into hot water.

The Earth is constantly producing heat, so geothermal energy is a renewable resource. In addition, these types of power plants produce much less waste, pollution, and greenhouse gas emissions.

However, geothermal energy is not as widely used as other types of energy. This is due to several factors. First, geothermal power plants are located close to volcanoes and are not always located near large cities or industries that consume a lot of electricity.

Second, drilling deep wells and building power plants can be expensive.

Finally, sometimes drilling and water injection cause small earthquakes.
