The study also found that blacks or African Americans living near fossil fuel plants would be most affected by increased pollution.
Lissa Freese, lead author of the study, stressed the importance of a thoughtful approach to decommissioning nuclear power plants, as the response of the power system to shutdown may not lead to the best results.
