According to Andrey Zhuikov, head of the SFU Thermal Engineering Laboratory, adding biomass to the fuel helps reduce coal consumption and industrial waste disposal. However, completely replacing coal with biomass requires significant costs for equipment modernization.

In the future, scientists plan to develop methods for thermal processing and enrichment of biomass to increase its efficiency as a fuel. The work was supported by a grant from the Russian Science Foundation.
