The study was carried out by experts from the V. I. Vernadsky Institute of Geochemistry and Analytical Chemistry of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the MV Lomonosov Moscow State University with the support of international researchers. Rubinite is a garnet consisting mainly of titanium Ti3+ and belongs to minerals formed in the primary solar nebula, the press service noted.

The mineral is named after Alan Rubin, an American scientist from the University of California, Los Angeles, known for his achievements in cosmochemistry. Leading researcher of the Laboratory of Meteorology and Cosmochemistry of the Institute of Geochemistry of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Marina Ivanova, emphasized that rubinite was formed during the restoration of the solar nebula and its study can provide important information about the early stages of the formation of the Solar System.
