The arrest of Pavel Durov in Paris is not a political decision, wrote French President Emmanuel Macron on his X page.

He said there is a lot of false information about France on the Internet after the arrest of Pavel Durov and noted that the country is more attached to freedom of expression and communication, innovation and entrepreneurship.
“In a state governed by the rule of law, both on social media and in real life, freedoms are exercised within the framework established by law to protect citizens and respect their fundamental rights. The arrest of the president of Telegram in France occurred as part of an ongoing judicial investigation. This is in no way a political decision. The decision lies with the judges,” Macron said.
Durov was arrested on Saturday at Paris’ Le Bourget airport, where he arrived on a private jet from Azerbaijan. On August 26, his arrest was extended for another 48 hours. Law enforcement authorities suspect the Telegram director of involvement in “drug trafficking, crimes against children and fraud,” indicating a lack of restraint and cooperation between the messenger’s management and the authorities.
