High hsCRP levels are associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease and are a stronger predictor of heart disease than cholesterol levels. Reducing this level by 10-15% can reduce the risk of heart attack, cancer, and other diseases.
More than 8,000 trees and shrubs were planted in south Louisville as part of the study. The findings provide the first evidence that increasing green space in urban areas can directly improve people’s health.
This project strengthens the scientific basis for expanding green spaces in cities as a way to improve public health.
