The Russian Railways train travels autonomously, using neural networks it assesses the situation, makes decisions and performs necessary actions. The opening and closing of the doors is controlled by the driver, who is in the cabin.

The unmanned Lastochka will run regularly on the MCC in the general flow of regular trains, controlled solely by drivers.

In January, Russian Railways head Oleg Belozerov announced the launch of a fully unmanned passenger train in 2026. He also noted that in the summer of 2024 the company will launch a train with unmanned driving on level 3A of the Moscow Central Circle line.

The next fourth level of automation already means that there is no person in the cabin.
