  • Elon Musk talks about unprecedented crackdown on freedom of speech following the ban on X in Brazil and reflects on adapting his world travel routes following the arrest of Pavel Durov. At the same time, Brazilian users are massively migrating to Bluesky.
  • Microsoft, as part of the implementation of sanctions, is preparing to disable its cloud services for the largest university in southern Russia, the Southern Federal University (SFU, 25 thousand students and about 5 thousand employees), RB.RU reported.

  • Dodo Brands will once again have a new CEO: Dmitry Solovyov will take over the post of Alena Tikhova. Previously, Solovyov headed the company’s Eurasian direction.
  • In the Russian Federation, the revenue of restaurants and cafes in residential areas of Moscow in the first seven months of 2024 increased by an average of 15% year-on-year. But in the centre of the capital, attendance is declining.
  • The Bank of Russia announced the start of the second stage of testing the digital ruble from September 1. The number of individual participants will increase from 600 people to 9,000, legal entities – from 22 to 1.2 thousand, and the functionality will also be expanded (transfers between legal entities and payment via a dynamic QR code will be added).
  • The Ministry of Finance estimates that by the end of 2023, US investors will have $30.4 billion in Russian securities (including $28.6 billion in stocks). In 2021, these figures were $83.8 billion and $69.2 billion, respectively.
  • The volume of microcredits issued in the second quarter of 2024 increased in the consumer segment by 20%, in the SME segment by 22%. In the previous quarter, the growth was around 6%.
  • In Kazakhstan, nearly 1.8 thousand schools were connected to the Internet using SpaceX Starlink terminals. The connection speed has tripled.
  • Paramount is selling its VidCon conference. The new owner is Informa, the organizer of Fan Expo.
  • French company TotalEnergies has announced the sale of two oil fields in Nigeria for 19.5 million dollars. The new owner is local company Aradel Holdings.
  • Blogger Elena Blinovskaya has partially admitted her guilt for tax evasion. She still denies the accusations of money laundering.
  • And Sber opened a fountain of light and music in Chelyabinsk, on the Miass River. Dimensions 90×26 m, 192 jets with a height of 3 to 25 m.
