Easter is here, and with it millions of car trips around the country, and with petrol and diesel on the rise, the vacation you deserve won’t be cheap.

And even after the introduction of a discount of 0.20 euros per liter, which entered into force on April 1, both diesel and gasoline are still off the charts.

However, diesel is still 39% more expensive than a year ago with this discount, while petrol has accumulated a 22.5% increase since spring 2021. Thus, filling 50 liters, and even taking into account the discount of € 0.20 per liter, will mean that you will pay 23 euros more for diesel and 15 euros more for gasoline.

Savings can be made by changing some driving habits by actually driving differently and making some more conservative decisions, according to the OCU.

Something very obvious is that whenever you drive faster, the consumption will be higher, so slow down as you will be able to save. So, when you go on a trip, try to leave on time, even if it takes another hour or two to get to your destination.

On the other hand, if you observe the maximum speed, in addition to not getting fines, the car will also consume less.

For example, driving on a motorway at 140 km/h instead of 120 km/h will cost you 20% more fuel. Thus, for every 10 km/h you slow down, you save 10% of fuel. So try to always drive a little below the maximum road limit.

It is important to keep an eye on your tire pressure, as driving with a lower tire pressure than recommended by the manufacturer increases consumption by 1% for every 0.1 bar of pressure below the required level.

Other more general tips that are very easy to follow are:

  • Switch off the engine when stopping for more than a minute.
  • It does without air conditioning, on these dates it does not need to be installed yet.
  • Do not overload the machine.
  • Use the car’s electrical accessories in moderation.
  • And remember that when driving with the windows down, the car consumes more energy.

If you follow all these tips, you will save dozens of euros for the Easter holidays by using less fuel in your car.
