The shortage is due, among other things, to the tightening of migration policy and the regulation of taxis, Anton Petrakov, director of work with government agencies at Yandex Go, told TASS.

He says that by the end of this year there may be a shortage of taxi drivers in Russia, there may be a shortage of up to 130 thousand people. The expert said this during the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF).
“By the end of 2024, Russia will be short of about 130,000 taxi drivers. The deficit is growing, among other things, due to the tightening of immigration policies and taxi regulations: drivers are moving to other areas where they have comparable incomes, but fewer requirements and expenses.” – believes the expert.
The shortage of drivers will inevitably increase taxi prices, which will be especially noticeable at the end of the year, when demand for this service will increase exponentially. According to him, the cost of the trip could increase “by tens of percent during peak hours in the autumn and winter months.”
To restore the flow of drivers, the company is negotiating with regulators an experimental legal regime that will allow it to digitize and simplify some of the requirements, introduce different transport models, which will allow it to find part-time drivers, intercity travel, as well as increase subsidies for partners and drivers.
In early August, Yandex launched a new taxi ordering service based on the previously acquired assets of Vezet. It is available in a separate application. The new service is cheaper than Yandex Taxi’s Economy fare. But delivery of the car takes longer.
