Carbon nanotubes, multilayered tubes grown vertically, absorb nearly all light, reducing the level of stray light and increasing the sensitivity of observations. These nanotubes will be used in coronagraphs to block excess light and improve the accuracy of exoplanet images.

Advanced Nanophotonics has also developed a technology for coating mirrors with carbon nanotubes, minimizing distortion and improving the quality of observations. The technology is already being used in space missions and on-Earth projects, such as improving the performance of telescopes and creating new instruments for analyzing atmospheric gases.
