SSI currently has 10 employees and will invest in computing power and hire top talent. The plan is to create a small but reliable team of researchers and engineers who will work in the United States and Israel.

Sources close to the company say the project is valued at $5 billion and investors are willing to bet on the exceptional talent working on fundamental AI research. Investors include major venture capital firms Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia Capital, DST Global, SV Angel, NFDG and others.

Sutskever, 37, is one of the most influential technologists in the field of artificial intelligence. In June, he founded SSI, together with Daniel Gross, who previously led AI initiatives at Apple, and Daniel Levy, a former researcher at OpenAI. The company’s “special focus” will allow it not to be distracted by “administrative costs or product cycles.” In May, Sutskever left his position as chief scientist at developer ChatGPT. He worked at the company for almost ten years.
