The entrepreneur said this would happen in the near future, but did not mention the exact launch date of this opportunity. He also said that he had not previously considered Wildberries as a market.
“Now, after some time, yes, you could say that we have become a marketplace, because in addition to the goods that are in our warehouse complexes, we have started to provide a platform for any seller of goods or services – for now only goods, in the near future there will be services as well,” Bakalchuk said.
As Maxim Samoilenko, marketing director of the Anabar market analytics and promotion service, told RB.RU, selling digital services is a logical step in further developing Wildberries’ business.
For example, Amazon started by selling books and then expanded into digital products and merchandise, increasing advertising revenue. Digital products remain an important source of revenue without competing with physical goods. Wildberries plans to increase revenue through digital services without reducing sales of other products, the expert noted.
- In June 2024, Wildberries announced a merger with the outdoor advertising operator Russ. The companies then founded a joint venture, RVB LLC, in which 65% is owned by Wildberries and 35% by the company Stinn, owner of Russ Outdoor. In August, the combined company was renamed Wildberries Russ.
- The co-founder and owner of 1% of the company, Vladislav Bakalchuk, announced the “acquisition” of Wildberries. He repeatedly tried to prevent the merger.
