Bauchner emphasizes that AI can simplify the process of evaluating articles by providing an initial “score” for articles and help editors decide which articles should be sent for external review. This could ease the growing problem of finding qualified reviewers and speed up the review process, the scientist said. AI tools can also help editors select important articles by estimating their citation potential and thus influencing the journal’s impact factor.

In his editorial in the European Journal of Emergency Medicine, Bauchner emphasizes that artificial intelligence will not replace editors and reviewers, but will provide valuable additional data.
