The publication reports that Samsung has instructed its subsidiaries around the world to reduce sales and marketing staff by about 15 percent and administrative staff by up to 30 percent.
The layoffs will take place through the end of 2024 and will affect employees in North and South America, Europe, Asia and Africa. However, no exact figures are provided on how many people will be laid off or which departments will suffer more than others. It should be noted that in India the company has already offered severance packages to some mid-level employees.
In a statement, Samsung, as quoted by reporters, said that the workforce adjustments in several divisions are aimed at increasing efficiency. This will not affect production in any way. According to Samsung’s report based on data from the end of 2023, the company employs 267.8 thousand people in total, of which 147 thousand are overseas (the company is based in South Korea).
In early August, 25 days after the strike began, members of the National Samsung Electronics Union (NSEU) returned to work. The corporation’s workers changed their strategy due to disputes over wage compensation during the strike.
