The new feature uses Google’s Gemini product to create “audio summaries” of user-provided material. With Audio Overview, users can input documents on a wide range of topics, and the app creates a podcast-style dialogue between two hosts. The hosts not only briefly summarize the content, but also join in on the conversation.
After testing the feature, users found that the AI presenters delivered convincing conversations using a combination of “informal and fun” language. But The Verge writes that the AI’s tendency toward random quirks, like spelling words, underscores the tool’s current limitations, with one respondent calling platinum “shiny metal.”
To experience this new feature, users can access it via the Notebook reference in the bottom right corner of the NotebookLM screen and select the “Audio Overview” option.
