Insider Majin Bu has published photos of the insides of the iPhone 16 Pro Max and 16 Plus.

They show that the iPhone 16 Pro Max battery has an L-shaped steel case, while the iPhone 16 Plus has a regular battery.

The advantage of a steel case is mainly improved heat dissipation. The downside of this solution is the increased weight of the battery.

Aluminum would be preferable for the battery, Majin Bu believes. It weighs less and is even better at dissipating heat. According to the insider, Apple decided to use steel to comply with regulations that require manufacturers to replace batteries in smartphones themselves.

All iPhone 16s were expected to come with a steel-cased battery this year, but it looks like Apple has decided to keep that feature for the Pro models only. [WccfTech]
