According to the TV channel, the decision to cancel the fine states that the court supports the arguments of the European Commission (EC), based on whose claim the fine was imposed. However, it was decided to cancel it because the commission did not take into account certain circumstances. CNBC did not specify exactly what those circumstances were.
Google was fined in 2019. The European Commission condemned the company for illegal use of the contextual advertising service AdSense. According to the EC’s arguments, Google colluded with third-party sites to prevent the placement of competing advertisements on them.
Google Corporation has been repeatedly fined in Europe, the United States and other countries, including for violating antitrust laws. The company contests most of the fines, but is not always successful, for example in the case of a $4 billion antitrust fine.
In Russia, Google has also been fined several times, with the latest sanction coming in April 2024 for refusing to remove information banned in the country.
