WhatsApp lets you adjust how the app handles pending message timestamps on Android. The new feature was found testing in Beta version 2.24.20.17 of the messenger.

According to the website WABetaInfo, which first discovered the news, this option is located in the “Notifications” menu within the WhatsApp Beta Settings. In print, this function is called “Home screen count”.

By tapping on the feature, the user can choose between two options: set after each conversation displayed or clear everything after opening the app once.

The number of pending messages can now follow two different behaviors.

Currently, the stable version of the app adheres to the second option: opening the app resets the number of badges on the home screen, even if you haven’t opened any conversation.

Frankly, message count does not override user preferences in system settingsSo if your app badges are turned off on Android, the waiting message counting model won’t affect anything.

As always There is no estimate regarding the exact launch of the new productHowever, since it is a top-secret feature, it may not take long for it to be available in the final version of WhatsApp.
