TikTok has removed accounts associated with Russian news organizations from its platform. The suspension was due to: Alleged participation in “influence campaigns” banned on social network.

The decision was announced on the “Center for US Election Integrity” page, which brings together all news about efforts to protect election integrity in the US.

The removed accounts were associated with Rossiya Segodnya and TV-Novosti. currently runs Sputnik and RT.

According to TikTok, the content of the pages did not appear in the “For you” feed with the appropriate status link definition. Profile posts were also restricted in Europe. But now the accounts have been permanently banned and should not be visible anywhere in the world.

In the statement, TikTok did not provide specific examples of how the tools were used spread biased news or those trying to influence US elections. However, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and the FBI have indicated to the media that the Russian government is producing AI content related to the US election.

False content about US presidential candidates

Most of the content consisted of text, images and audio intended to disparage the current vice president and the Democratic Party, according to authorities.

On September 16 of this year, Meta also banned media accounts with ties to the Russian government. The platform cited “foreign interference activity” as the reasoning behind the decision, similar to TikTok’s motivation.

Microsoft also found biased content circulating from Russian groups, and the company warned that more material, including some artificial intelligence-synthesized content, would be shared online as the election approaches.
