Since the beginning of 2024, the total amount of damage caused to individuals, companies and government agencies by cybercrime has amounted to more than 116 billion rubles. This was announced by the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Vladimir Kolokoltsev at a meeting of the public council.

According to him, the number of illegal acts on the Internet has more than doubled over the past five years: “Today, their share in the total volume (of crimes – RB.RU) remains significant and amounts to about 40%,” the official said, adding that for serious and especially serious items, this figure is close to 60%.
The minister explained that the police start working with the applicant when the crime has already been committed. Other departments, regulators, telecom operators, banks and Internet providers are responsible for eliminating the causes and conditions that contribute to cybercrime, Kolokoltsev said.
The head of the Interior Ministry also said that his ministry has prepared a draft law on criminal liability for transferring an electronic means of payment or providing access to it to other persons for a fee.
