The Paris prosecutor’s office has asked for bail of 20 million euros for the release of Telegram founder Pavel Durov, instead of the 5 million euros approved by the judge, writes Le Monde citing sources.

As the publication notes, the amount of the pledge seems insignificant compared to the businessman’s fortune, but there is no clear assessment of his capital. At the end of August, Durov told investigators that his salary was only 1 dirham (less than 30 rubles) a year, but that his personal wealth was estimated at between $9 billion and $15.5 billion, writes Monde.

According to him, Durov’s assets were of particular interest to the French justice system, as the amount of the bail should have been sufficient to prevent the billionaire from leaving French territory. As a result, Durov was released on bail of 5 million euros on 29 August.

In early September, Paris said that the founder of Telegram was cooperating with local judicial authorities and fully complying with the conditions of control established after his indictment. He was arrested on the evening of August 24 at Le Bourget airport upon his arrival from Azerbaijan. The billionaire was accused on Telegram of not cooperating with the authorities in the fight against crime.
