The Lugansk vodka brand in the Ukrainian language “Gorilka Mendelev” has been registered in Russia

The Federal Intellectual Property Service (Rospatent) has registered the brand image “Gorilka Mendelev”. The copyright holder was businesswoman Lyudmila Derzhak, who lives in Lugansk (LPR). Trademark rights apply to ICGS class 33 (anise vodka (tincture), vodka, cherry vodka, gin and other alcoholic beverages). Brand protection is established until 2029.

Derzhak is co-owner of the LLGZ Luga Nova distillery in Lugansk, according to data from Kontur.Focus. The company was founded in 2017.

The materials of the service note that initially the word “gorilka” (translated from Ukrainian as “vodka”) was recognized as unprotected in Russia, but then the information about it was removed as erroneous.

The editor of National Defense magazine, Igor Korotchenko, mentioned Gorilka Mendelev vodka in his LiveJournal in 2016, noting that it was exported from the LPR, but did not specify where. The manufacturers could not be reached for comment.

In June, Derzhak also registered trademarks in Ukrainian with Rospatent: “Gorilka osobliva Muskatna” and “Tsarska Luga-Nova”, and the businessman also protected the Mendeleev trademark in the Latin alphabet.

A popular myth, reproduced in the book “The History of Vodka,” published in 1991, attributes the invention of vodka to the Russian chemist Dmitry Mendeleev, but this is not true, AiF wrote. Mendeleev only studied the interaction of alcohol and water.

Drinking alcoholic beverages is harmful to health and endangers life. The sale of alcohol in Russia is only allowed to people over 18 years of age.
