The passenger transport service Uber announced work on a low-cost electric car for taxis and deliveries. The automaker partner was not disclosed.
Uber cars will have a lower top speed than normal cars. Passenger seats will be facing each other. These changes will help lower the ultimate cost of cars, writes The Wall Street Journal.
For delivery, the company is considering two- and three-wheeled vehicles with trunks, which will ease traffic jams.
- In spring 2021, British electric vehicle startup Arrival and Uber announced the joint development of electric taxis. Production was planned to begin in late 2023.
- A year later, Arrival announced the sale of 10% of the company amid the threat of bankruptcy. The startup’s founder, Denis Sverdlov, stepped down as CEO. And the company received a warning from Nasdaq about a possible delisting of the company’s shares from the stock exchange.
