Announced at I/O 2024, the feature uses Google’s Gemini AI to deliver “more detailed, context-aware” responses compared to the original Smart Reply feature from 2017.

The new system analyzes the content of the letters and offers three specific responses. Each sentence can be previewed and edited: users can easily add a response, write media, including the greeting and conclusion to an email for further customization.

Contextual Smart Replies is currently only available in English and is exclusive to paid Google One AI Premium and Gemini Business subscribers.
