Researchers found that the latest Samsung TVs can take pictures every 500 milliseconds, LG’s – every 10 milliseconds. Televisions are supposed to analyze the content on the screen to deliver relevant ads to the viewer.
This happens even when using the TV as an external display for a laptop or game console connected via HDMI. However, TVs do not take photos when the user launches apps for streaming services like Netflix.
As experts noted, this represents a serious security risk, as screenshots may contain personal information. Furthermore, users are not warned about this.
You can disable the function, but for this owners of Samsung and LG TVs will have to change 6 to 10 parameters in the settings. Experts called for the deactivation procedure to be simpler and more accessible.
