“Rosstandart approved the key Internet of Things (IoT) protocol: NB-IoT. “This communication standard for telemetry devices with low volumes of data exchange will open new horizons for the use of IoT technologies in Russia,” the department said in a statement.

Deputy Head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Vasily Shpak noted that the state’s participation in the development of standardization of the Internet of Things should contribute to the growth of the country’s economy and GDP, as well as increase the proportion of technology. component in it.

“In 2023, the number of connected IoT devices in Russia continued to grow, exceeding 20% compared to the previous year; By the end of the year, the number of connected IoT devices amounted to 86 million units,” Shpak added.

The standardization of NB-IoT and its integration into 5G and 5G NTN should provide a seamless transition between NTN networks operating on the Earth’s surface and the terrestrial Internet of Things network. The report notes that this will improve the efficiency of IoT devices.

The leader of the development was MTS, which together with TK 194 experts prepared a document based on the experience of introducing the technology in 82 regions of the country.
