The agency’s interlocutor clarified that the calculated amount of damage is preliminary. He also stressed that about two years ago more than 250 million rubles were withdrawn.

On October 4, a Moscow court placed Valeria Chekalina under house arrest until November 26, 2024, with a ban on using the Internet. Chekalin will be detained in the Millennium Park village in Istra, Moscow Region. On the same day, Chekalina’s ex-husband, Artem Chekalin, was placed under house arrest. Both pleaded not guilty.

The investigation believes the Chekalins and their business partner signed agreements with a foreign company to hold fitness marathons. At the same time, money was sent to offshore accounts and falsified documents containing false information about the purpose of the transfers were provided to regulatory authorities.

In March 2023, a criminal case was opened against Valeria and Artem Chekalin for non-payment of 300 million rubles in taxes. In November of the same year, the Chekalin defense announced a payment of 500 million rubles to the Federal Tax Service. The case was closed in December.
