The document says the Justice Department is “considering structural and behavioral protections that will prevent Google from using products like Chrome, Play, and Android” to gain advantages in search and the use of artificial intelligence.
The court can also force Google to provide access to the data the company uses to operate its search engine, Bloomberg emphasized.
Additionally, the Justice Department may require Google to stop paying Apple and other device makers to make its search engine the default on their smartphones and browsers. Google made such payments worth $26.3 billion in 2021, according to Reuters.
The agency said the Justice Ministry must present more specific proposals about Google to the court by November 20. The company will be able to respond until December 20.
Google called the Justice Department’s proposals “radical” and noted that “excessive government intervention in a fast-growing industry could have unintended negative consequences for innovation and American consumers.”
