Information about the arrest was confirmed by a TASS source in law enforcement agencies. According to an RBC source, he is suspected of fraudulent activities and abuse of power.
On the website of the Moscow courts of general jurisdiction there is no indication of the article under which Popelyukh was detained.
An RBC police source reported that searches were carried out at Popelyukh’s home and workplace the day before. Investigators seized electronic media and documents that may be related to the case.
FSB agents, as RBC clarifies, this week carried out investigative actions at the DIA central office and interviewed two top managers of the state corporation, including Popelyukh.
At the DIA, Popelyukh is responsible for supporting criminal proceedings.
In January 2004, the State Corporation Deposit Insurance Agency was created. The DIA pays insurance compensation to bank depositors in respect of whom an insured event occurred.
