Western publications have released the first reviews of the 7th generation iPad mini.
The update this year was minor, so the additional changes are not as significant as we would like.
1. Edge
Without Apple Intelligence, the new iPad mini isn’t all that new.
The only reason to buy this iPad mini is because it’s an iPad mini. It has little else to offer. You can spend $100 more and buy a much better iPad Air tablet with the M2, or you can save some money and find an older or refurbished 2021 Mini. At $499, this iPad mini may be the best value for money in the iPad lineup.
There are actually three new things about the tablet. First, it supports Apple Pencil Pro, which magnetically attaches to the side of the mini for charging and connectivity. iPad mini users can do everything with Apple Pencil Pro that they can do on other iPads. If you have an old Pencil that plugs into a USB port, that will work too, but the mini doesn’t support the Pencil 2 for some odd reason.
The second change is the colors, with the mini cassette in space serum and pale gold, as well as a new blue and purple color. I have the blue one and the color is so dull that I had to check to see if my model was silver (that one is no longer available). Next to my blue iPhone 16, it looked depressingly pale.
The best part is that you get more memory for the price! The base model now requires 128 GB of memory, which is a good thing and has been requested for a long time: $499 for a tablet with 64 GB is just stupid.
The new iPad mini is essentially no different from the older models, which is a little disappointing. In all other iPads, the front camera is already in the center; if you turn the tablet horizontally, in the mini it will remain in the same place. The jelly scrolling effect from the previous version is still present.. Touch ID is still used in the power key.
2. Tom’s Guide
The tablet’s strengths outweigh its weaknesses.
iPad mini 7 is powered by the A17 Pro chip, which includes a 6-core CPU, 5-core GPU, and 16-core Neural Engine. It provides this gift tablet with high performance. Even when I had a dozen Chrome tabs open and YouTube videos activated, the iPad mini 7 never slowed down or stuttered.
In our Adobe Premiere Rush video transcoding test, the iPad mini 7 took 21 seconds to pick up the task, which is 10 seconds faster than the iPad mini 6 and almost 40 seconds faster than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3-powered OnePlus Pad 2.
Another aspect that has carried over from the iPad mini 6 to the iPad mini 7 is its excellent battery life.
In our battery test, which included continuous web surfing over Wi-Fi with the display brightness set to 150 nits, the iPad mini 7 lasted 10 hours and 34 minutes. While that’s about 20 minutes less than previous models, it’s still an incredible amount of battery life that lasts most of the day.
The iPad mini 7 isn’t a monumental upgrade over the previous model, but the changes it introduces are made to its superior tablet. It has higher performance and more memory. On top of that, it has the same portable design, great display, and battery life that we’ve come to expect. And you got it all for the same $499 starting price as before.
3. Engadget
If you have a previous iPad mini, you can look forward to this one.
The iPad mini’s 8.3-inch screen is roughly on par with the iPad Air’s display. This is a very good display, but it is still a regular LCD panel with a 60Hz extension range.
The good news is that Looks like Apple has fixed the jelly scrolling issuewhen one side of the screen does not refresh at the same rate as the other. I didn’t notice this when using the new iPad mini. I’m wondering if the problem has been completely resolved or if my eyes just didn’t notice it.
The A17 Pro processor will enable the iPad mini to take advantage of Apple Intelligence features when they arrive later this month, which is likely why the tablet exists in the first place. Apple clearly wants more people to use this feature, and now every iPad the company sells (except entry-level models) will work with Apple Intelligence. Of course, this makes it difficult to fully evaluate the iPad mini because Apple Intelligence doesn’t exist yet.
