The relative return on investment of young investors was 13% higher than that of people over 25 years old. However, their risk appetite is only 0.5% higher than that of older investors.
The results of investors over 25 years of age begin to deteriorate gradually: after five years, their relative profitability falls by 5.5%, after 10 years by 10% and after 15 years by 20%, according to the study.
Relative performance shows the extent to which the investment performance of an investor or group of such individuals differs from the average performance of all investors over a given period.
The study is based on the results of the stock market behavior of 16 million clients of Russian brokers aged between 14 and 60, who made at least one transaction between July 1, 2023 and June 30, 2024 or had assets in a brokerage account. .
In 2025, the Bank of Russia will introduce a new category of brokers – investors without experience in trading securities and financial instruments. This is how the regulator wants to limit the risks of novice participants in the securities market.
