Processor developer ARM has warned that it will revoke the license to use its intellectual property from Qualcomm. It produces processors.

ARM said Qualcomm has 60 days to resolve the issues and correct the “violations.” In 2021, Qualcomm acquired the startup Nuvia, which also released processors for this architecture. However, his license for this was revoked back in 2023.

It is assumed that it was Nuvia’s developments that formed the basis of the Snapdragon 8 Elite. Now ARM demands that they be abandoned and destroyed.

Qualcomm called ARM’s action “an attempt to put pressure on its long-time partner.”

If Qualcomm is licensed, it will be prohibited from developing new chips based on the ARM architecture. It will also have to enter into a separate agreement on the right to release each processor model. [Bloomberg]
