Thoughts on the rumors surrounding the Silent Hill series. Why is now the best time to bring her back?
A genre like Horror has always been and will be relatively niche. Especially in video games. However, there are several video game franchises in this genre. Some of them have even become iconic. Some of these are the Resident Evil and Silent Hill series. And if with the first everything is in order, it continues to evolve and delight its fans with both good news and great remakes of the classics, but with the second everything is much more complicated.

The first part of Silent Hill was released in 1999 on the first PlayStation. Above, I mentioned Resident Evil for a reason, because initially the first Silent Hill was created precisely in response to the success of the competing series. Konami (Konami), seeing the success of Capcom (Capcom), also wanted something similar. The players really liked the end result. From that moment, for the next 10 years, 12 projects were released on all platforms (including the first part). In addition, there were a couple more games and a reissue of the original parts in HD format.
Unlike other horror franchises, the games in the Silent Hill series relied heavily on not only screaming or darkness, but also mystical atmosphere and even psychology. Here are also all the components that are standard for horror: blood, monsters, darkness, etc. But the emotions of the characters always come out. Your fears and regrets. All of this made up a highly unusual formula for video game horror. Along with its other distinctive elements, such as the fog, radio, and flashlight, this formula has become a hallmark of the series.
Anticipation and rumors
The latest game in the series was released in 2012 for the PlayStation Vita console. It was a spin-off in the slasher genre. Since then, already for 10 years, the franchise is dead. There was a famous demo called PT Interactive Teaser released for PlayStation 4 in 2014. It was supposed to herald a new project in the series, and Hideo Kojima himself was supposed to develop it. However, at some point, Kojima severed relations with Konami and left the company. The PT itself was removed not only from the PSN store, but also from the accounts of everyone who downloaded it. Now on eBay you can find PS4 consoles with PT installed, once again indicating the cult status of this series.
After this story, there was no official information about the continuation of the series. But exactly what is official. Personally, I have been very interested in the gaming industry for the last 4 years. In all this time, the amount of rumors I’ve heard about a new Silent Hill exceeds the number of games in the series. Every 3-4 months something will appear regularly. So Kojima made peace with Konami and will go back to developing a new Silent Hill. That some company is working on a new game in the series on behalf of Konami. Something more like that. But so far, none of this has turned out to be true. Above all, I feel sorry for the fans of the series here, who continue to wait for new projects in their favorite franchise. From year to year they receive more and more rumors that give them hope. But every time they are disappointed.
Konami doesn’t need games?
And it seems to me that the Kons themselves are to blame. In the last few years, they have moved away from gaming entirely or nearly so. And this is what I don’t understand. They have a lot of very strong and popular franchises. They could release 2 or 3 major titles each year and delight millions of fans around the world with this. Or at least let others create games based on their franchises. Instead, they stay away from the gaming industry as much as possible, making as much as they can, but not gaming. Just like George Martin, who goes to great lengths to avoid writing the last two profit and loss books.
No, they certainly release something. But this is insignificance or a complete failure. And the loudest flop was, of course, eFooltball. Just one example of how much Konami has pulled back. I understand that they have quite a few other businesses there and live quite well. But for me, as a player, this just makes me sad.

Regardless of Konami’s status, however, the Silent Hill rumors continue. The latter at the moment says that the announcement of the next part of the series should take place on July 12. Konami themselves are doing their best to remove any mention of him from the web. And some believe that such a drain was not an accident at all, but a special PR action by Konami itself. And it really looks like it.
I don’t know if this rumor is true or not. We’ll know in a few days. But even if this is true and they really do show us the new Silent Hill, what will it be like? I am not talking about its concept, but about its technical performance and quality in principle. Will Konami be able to launch a worthy product? Will they be able to compete with their Capcom teammates again? Have you been able to learn something from the history of eFootball? And if it is, and the new part of Silent Hill is really in development and the developers will approach it responsibly, then that’s great.
