Sabesp (São Paulo State Essential Sanitation Company) suffered a cyber incident on October 19. Today (01), cyber crime group RansomHouse claims company was infected with ransomwareIt indicates a larger problem than instability and may include information theft.

In its press release, Sabesp stated that “it has taken all security and control measures and has implemented a plan to restore the affected systems.” Additionally, “According to the ongoing judicial investigation, no risks to personal data have been identified to date. Water supply and sewage collection and treatment operations were not affected by the cyber attack.”

The RansomHouse group’s description was first spotted by the @HackManac profile on X. In their blogs, Cybercriminals apologize to Sabesp customers for network instability and claim the company lied He said that the infrastructure has been re-established.

“Our partners report that more than 2,000 servers have been shut down and there is no guarantee that Sabesp will be able to restore them without our help because they do not have backups,” RansomHouse says in a note.

On the same note, cybercriminals also claim that Sabesp contacted the group but decided not to pay. Among additional details, the group claims the infection occurred on October 17 and makes evidence of the attack available for download.
