OpenAI announced that it has purchased the Chat.com domain. It already redirects users to ChatGPT.
HubSpot founder and CTO Dharmesh Shah purchased the domain for $15.5 million in early 2023 and sold it to an unknown buyer a few months later. Shah has now confirmed that OpenAI was the buyer. He also stated that he sold the domain better than he bought it.
The transaction amount has not been disclosed, but its estimate is approximately $20 million. OpenAI likely paid most of this amount in shares.
