Women’s fashion chain Lojas Marisa was infected with ransomware on Monday (04). Today (07), cybercrime group Medusa published an example of what was stolen, the amount charged for ransom, and the time it took for the company to fix the problem and not have its data published on the internet.
During the week, Lojas Marisa said that “the operations of physical stores are having an immediate impact,” while also saying that the threat “will be under control and there should be no major impacts on the company’s operations and systems.”“.
In today’s post, the Medusa group demands $300,000 to not publish the company’s compromised data. Lojas Marisa would have 10 days to make the payment.
Collected samples include catalogs, spreadsheets containing store records, earnings reports, payment receipts, etc. It is possible to watch.
What is ransomware
If you’ve come this far and don’t know what ransomware is, let us explain: Ransomware is like the pirate of the digital world. The virus enters your computer or smartphone, encrypts (hijacks) all files and demands a payment for their release.
Apart from the obvious issue of financial loss, ransomware operators also engage in blackmail by leaking sensitive data captured by the virus. Learn more about this in the video below:
