In October 2024, FAO’s FFPI stood at 127.4 points, 2 percent higher than in September of the same year. In the food basket, from which the index is calculated, all goods except meat have become more expensive. However, the FFPI remains 20.5% below its March 2022 peak, when the index rose to 160.2 points.

Although the FMPI meat price index decreased by 0.3% in September-October to 120.4 points, it is still 7.5% (8.4 points) higher than in September-October 2023. The moderate Rising beef prices were offset by lower pork and poultry prices. The price of lamb remained stable during September-October.

FDPI dairy prices increased 1.9% to 139.1 points in October this year, 21.4% (24.5 points) higher than a year ago. The driver of the price increase was cheese and butter, the shortage of which, according to the FAO, is mainly observed in the European Union.

The price of milk paid to European producers has increased steadily since April 2024 and, as reported by Eurostat, has reached 50.3 euros per quintal. Milk prices increased the most between September 2023 and September 2024 in Ireland (+45%), Sweden (+31%) and Belgium (+26%).
