A group of deputies and senators presented a bill to the State Duma that prohibits doing business on social networks banned in Russia. The document is posted on the website of the lower house of parliament.

The State Duma introduced a bill to ban doing business on blocked social networks

Amendments to the law "On combating legalization (laundering) of proceeds of crime and financing of terrorism" are proposed.

According to the text of the draft, banks and financial organizations will have to stop servicing the accounts of companies that provide services using sites banned in Russia.

Such sites mainly mean social networks blocked in Russia for disseminating prohibited information in the country: Facebook, Instagram (owned by Meta, which is recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation) and Twitter.

A Russian court recognized Meta as an extremist organization on March 21, and the decision took effect the same day. The media wrote that the purchase of advertising on Instagram and Facebook can now be considered in Russia as financing extremism.
