The project was launched after Amazon acquired startup bluDiagnostics in 2020, which developed a device called FertilityFinder to track fertility using saliva samples. The technology will help women monitor key hormones such as estradiol and progesterone and predict their fertile window through a mobile app.
Despite initial plans to launch the product this year, the team encountered technical issues that delayed the launch. The project required significant investment in research and development as well as highly skilled staff, resulting in weekly costs of approximately $1.5 million.
Despite the closure of the project, Amazon continues its work in the field of “health technologies” and provides support to laid-off employees.
