The C-Lion1 cable connecting Finland and Germany had also been damaged before. Both cables intersect in an area of only 10 square meters, eliminating the possibility of accidental double damage. Experts suggest this may be the result of targeted actions.
Tsaplin noted that such events carry not only economic but also political risks. Examples from recent years, including the sabotage of gas pipelines, show that global infrastructure is becoming vulnerable to attack.
