At the time of this publication (12:40 Moscow time), the dollar was worth 103.5 rubles and at the close of the last trading day its price rose by 2.18%.

The euro exchange rate on Forex exceeded 108 rubles on Friday, reaching a record in two years and almost nine months. At its maximum, the European currency was worth 108.3 rubles. At 12:40 Moscow time, it was trading at 107.78 rubles, with a price increase of 1.59%.

The day before, the Bank of Russia set the official exchange rate of the dollar for November 22 at 100.6798 rubles and the euro at 106.0762 rubles.

The ruble is now offset by a slowdown in exports along with a recovery in imports, a liquidity crunch in the yuan, a rise in money market rates, a rally in the dollar, as well as “tough geopolitics”, noted BCS Express expert Mikhail Zeltser. According to him, since the beginning of autumn the devaluation of the ruble has reached 20%.

The day before, the United States Treasury introduced new sanctions against about 100 Russian organizations and individuals. In particular, the restrictions included Gazprombank, the state corporation Dom.RF, Primsotsbank and BKS Bank, as well as the first vice presidents of the Central Bank, Vladimir Chistyukhin and Dmitry Tulin. The head of the ministry, Janet Yellen, stated that Gazprombank is “a channel for the acquisition of military equipment for Russia.”

Subsequently, Gazprombank and Primsotsbank warned their clients about possible problems in the operation of cards of the Chinese payment system Union Pay abroad. “If you are abroad, we recommend using cash,” Gazprombank said. Primsotsbank also temporarily suspended foreign currency transfers.
