Moscow’s Tagansky District Court imposed a fine of 7 million rubles on Telegram for violating the rules for blocking information prohibited in Russia. This is stated by the Telegram channel of the capital’s general jurisdiction courts.

The court found the company guilty under Part 4 of Article 13.41 of the Administrative Code (violation of the procedure for restricting access to information, access to which is subject to restrictions in accordance with Russian legislation). The maximum fine provided for in this article is 8 million rubles.
It is not specified what exactly the reason for the administrative sanction was.
In mid-October, the same court fined Telegram 4 million rubles for failing to remove information prohibited in Russia. At the end of the month, TASS, citing a court decision, wrote that the reason for the fine was channels containing calls to separate the Urals from the rest of the country.
Since February 2021, Roskomnadzor has periodically drawn up administrative protocols regarding social media and instant messaging, which, at the regulator’s request, have not removed prohibited content, the agency said. Thus, on several occasions, Russian courts imposed fines on Pinterest, Twitch and Meta*.
