What games for PC and consoles are popular in Russia. Here are the top 10

We continue the series of regional articles. Last time we looked at what people like to play abroad, and at the end of the material I promised to look at the situation inside our country.

Important factor: like last time, I will deliberately not include the segment of shareware projects in the study, everything is clear with them. projects will be combined into one segment because there is no point in talking about them separately. Obvious FIFA and Minecraft also mention the meaning, I don’t see the point, by the way.

This time, the source of statistical data will be primarily the results of a survey of my colleagues from the media sphere, several active players from different chats and, last but not least, data provided by the Achivka company, which is now the main supplier of games on store shelves. Do I pretend to be objective? Depends on perception.

1. Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption

Historically, the GTA series has been loved in our country since the beginning of the 21st century. For her sake, we went to computer clubs, bought consoles and upgraded the hardware of our PC.

Sheets with cheat codes became akin to scrolls with forbidden wording, which were transmitted along with another absolutely true story that in fact you can leave Vice City for the city from GTA 3, and my mother at work has a disk with this characteristic of GTA status about your hometown.

It’s not even worth talking about how eagerly we were waiting for the release of GTA 5 on PC. The game is so beloved by players that, according to our retailers, discs with the latest version of GTA 5 for PlayStation 5 are still in demand throughout the country. Every video on YouTube about building a computer always has a part where GTA 5 is used as a performance test.

And for some reason in our country they love Red Dead Redemption. The first part of the thorough time was exclusive to PS3 and Xbox 360, I personally know people who bought a flashed X360 for the sake of “Toyushka GTA about the Wild West”. The second part will be released from the store shelves in due time and you will still be able to shop.

2. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Cyberpunk 2077

The path of Geralt of Rivia into the hearts of our players turned out to be quite unusual. Many people remember and love the first part in absentia, but most fans never read it to the end. The second part is rare in our country, but the third “The Witcher” is a real cult, and many, in principle, thanks to this game, learned about the universe of Mr. Sapkowski.

In 2015, with the release of the game, I observed a surge in books about Geralt, as one of my friends from Read City noted. Even now, the PS 5 version of the game is among the top 10 most popular games in Russia.

The situation was approximately the same with Cyberpunk 2077. We achieved success in the game: from high credit, the trust of the studio to a large-scale advertising campaign, including cooperation with Dodo Pizza. And, despite the frankly disastrous start of the game and many technical problems, the project was received with warmth and returns to it even 4 years after release.

3. Atomic Heart

Atomic Heart is our most important long-term construction project, which was able to come out without extreme mistakes (yes, Expectalker2?), scandals and cringing.

In addition, the project could become the largest event for journalists in recent years, a bunch of different goods that are still sold, collabs with branded clothing and fast food chains, in general – the atomic heart, our great pride.

And most importantly, an impressive advertising campaign reveals an incredibly excellent shooter with a captivating plot and a detailed world.

Many people became familiar with the game thanks to its release as part of the Xbox Game Pass subscription. It is also known that it successfully launched in the VK Play service, for which it was a debut in the market of gaming gaming projects.

4. Tekken, UFC, Mortal Kombat

In our country, the fighting game genre is very popular. The previous ball ruled Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 for SEGA, and then the great third Tekken from the first PlayStation. Our gamers’ love for this episode extends from generation to generation.

Recently, the UFC series of games from Electronic Arts has also become popular among us. According to fans, the reason for this popularity is that gamers want to play more serious and realistic fighting games based on real disciplines. And the UFC fully satisfies this request.

5. Escape from Tarkov

Speaking about favorite games in Russia, one cannot fail to mention the work of Nikita Buyanov. Battlestate Games created a new genre and attracted the attention of not only gamers, but also true connoisseurs of firearms.

“Escape from Tarkov” is the first project in a new genre called “extraction shooter”. In these games, the main emphasis is on “raids” – forays where players must collect as many resources, Loot, and surrounding things as possible and return to base. Death means a complete and irrevocable theory of progress.

Our country loves hardcore games, and Tarkov has become synonymous with all things hardcore over the years. From gameplay to weapon customization. You simply won’t find such detailed configuration of each element. I personally know several people who love Tarkov solely for this element.

6. Duology “Fear and Hunger”

Speaking of hardcore. I would finish the list with a rather strange project, about which over the past couple of years I have made an unimaginable number of hours-long videos on YouTube. Fear & Hunger is a game that people love to watch videos about, but to play it yourself…

F&H is a mixture of JRPG and Survival Horror genres. The combination of settings is no less interesting: the action of the first part is the prison “Fear and Hunger”, inside of which a surreal hell unfolded with sacrifices and monsters. And in the second plot of the game, it suddenly takes place on the territory of Eastern Europe during the Second World War. Firstly, what people love about duology is that it’s an intricate and complex plot that needs to be pieced together.

And both parts of Fear and Hunger are extremely difficult. And I’m not exaggerating. Both the first and the second part are so unfriendly to the player of the project that this is possible. And yet they attract this complexity, creepy setting and sometimes frankly off-scale cruelty. Therefore, Fear & Hunger finds itself in a rather interesting situation: players really like to watch videos about this game, but they don’t want to play on their own.

The government, in our country, the gaming industry is loved and respected, which is good news. Despite the objective difficulties with purchasing games and consoles that have appeared in recent years, we have not become less likely to play games, buy consoles and even disks.
