The network deployment follows a successful trial last year and is already underway in Neubrandenburg, Northern Germany. Nokia will replace Huawei equipment that has been excluded from many Western networks due to “security concerns”.

Using ORAN technology increases flexibility and reduces costs by integrating cloud-based software and hardware from multiple vendors. Ericsson, which has major contracts with companies such as AT&T and MasOrange, also promotes ORAN as a “cost-effective alternative” to traditional network systems.
