According to an article published in the journal Cureus, the oil has moisturizing and therapeutic effects and can increase the amount of fatty acids in the skin. According to Elizabeth Bahar Houshmand, MD, a board-certified dermatologist in Dallas, Texas, beef tallow has the potential to help dry skin as a moisturizer. He reported this to Verywell in an email. However, more research is needed to confirm the safety of applying this oil to the skin.

Beef fat is now used as an ingredient in some soaps and other skin care products. However, animal studies have revealed that these products can cause irritation. It’s unclear whether this is due to beef tallow or other ingredients, said Cindy Wassef, MD, an assistant professor at Rutgers University Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

But Huushmand warns that if you have oily skin or are prone to acne, beef fat may lead to even more acne.
