Google Photos is undergoing a major redesign of its app, which will see one of its most popular elements disappear forever. The platform, in particular (and as it turned out 9to5Google), removes the Memories tab.
This has been present in Google Photos for many years and serves as a way to remember special moments. The app actually collects images and videos of when it detects an important event, such as a birthday, party, excursion or trip, and provides quick access to them from this tab.
Now, with the latest update, Google Photos will display three tabs in the bottom navigation bar. On one side is Photos, which displays all the photos stored in the app. The Collections tab is also retained, where albums, websites, and more appear. And finally, the Search tab.
However, the memories did not disappear.; only a button that allowed access to them. Google, however, has changed the name of the feature. It is now called “Moments” and is located in the “Collections” section. It also has a new interface that shows various events. Users can also add details or related information, as well as add photos, save them, or add users so they can access those images and videos.
Google Photos is also betting on artificial intelligence
This change will happen in the coming weeks to all users through an app update that will be rolled out to both iOS and Android versions.
Google Photos, however, does support a feature that lets you view images and videos captured over time through an option located in the Photos section, and it’s very reminiscent of Instagram Stories. The Google Images app also has other additional features which significantly improve the quality of viewing images or memories.
How could it be otherwise, Google has also included artificial intelligence features in the Photos app. These include one that improves video quality and stabilization, or another that can apply dynamic tracking to an object to keep it centered at all times.
