According to the Flightradar24 portal, at 9:30 Moscow time, flight RB441 was supposed to take off from the Syrian capital bound for Moscow, and its arrival in Vnukovo was expected at 14:00 Moscow time.

However, this flight, like other flights between Moscow and Damascus, is not listed on the online scoreboard of Vnukovo Airport.

According to Flightradar24, the last passenger plane to take off from Damascus International Airport was a private Syrian airline, Cham Wings Airlines, which took off for Sharjah (UAE) at 00:56 (instead of 00:30) Moscow time.

On the morning of December 8, Syrian militants opposed to the ruling regime of President Bashar al-Assad entered Damascus. Reuters writes about the overthrow of Assad from power, while the Syrian president himself “flew from Damascus in an unknown direction.”

According to the Syrian radio station Sham FM, at 5:28 Moscow time, all employees at the capital’s airport were evacuated and flights were suspended. Shooting, looting and explosions continue in Damascus.

Flights of Russian civil aircraft in Syrian airspace have been banned by the Federal Air Transport Agency since September 2013, so as of December 8, 2024, Syria Air was the only airline operating flights between Moscow and Damascus.
