In a new study, researchers found that the less pain participants felt after drinking alcohol, the more pain they were willing to inflict on another person.
In total, experts conducted two independent experiments. There were 543 people in one and 327 people in the other. All reported drinking 3-4 alcoholic beverages at least once a month.
During the experiment, it turned out that people who drank alcohol were less sensitive to electric shocks. The higher their tolerance for physical pain, the higher their level of aggression in terms of the intensity and duration of shocks they are willing to deliver to their opponents.
Participants’ blood alcohol concentrations averaged between 0.095% and 0.11%. This is slightly above the legal limit in most states in America – 0.08%.
